Interscholastic League Press Conference Spring Convention

Ms. Shirack will be attending ILPC, and will help out students who would like to attend. Students can attend workshops on all sorts of Journalism topics, see other schools’ entries, compete in on-site contests in video, photography, or news writing and find out if you or your team (or your classmates) won any awards. Students who will be on Media Production or Yearbook staff for 2017-18 are strongly encouraged to attend.

For full list of break-out sessions, see here. You can pick which workshop sessions are most interesting to you, but we typically pick two sessions per hour and let students pick one of those to attend.

Saturday, April 22

Arrive at 12:40 for break-out sessions (workshops). Students should be dropped off and picked up at Welch Hall on UT’s campus, which is located at: 105 E 24th St, Austin, TX 78705. Ms. Shirack will meet you outside at the corner of 24th Street and Speedway.  If you plan to arrive at a time other 12:45, let Ms. Shirack know using the contact methods above.

1 - 1:45 p.m. — Break-out sessions (choose your own sessions)

 2 - 2:45 p.m. — Break-out sessions

 3 - 3:45 p.m. — Break-out sessions

 4 - 4:45 p.m. — Break-out sessions

*Students may leave earlier, but should communicate this with Ms. Shirack.

 

Sunday, April 23

Student’s choice: Arrive at 10:45 at LBJ Auditorium for Awards Assembly. LBJ Auditorium is located at 2313 Red River St, Austin, TX 78705.

11:10 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. — Grand Awards Assembly at LBJ Auditorium

*The awards assembly is open to the public, so if parents would like to stay on Sunday because of the shorter time period, that’s allowed as well.

Want to create the 2017-18 yearbook? Priority is given to those who have taken a class with Ms. Shirack, but all must fill out the application at the link below. Students chosen for Yearbook must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the school.

It's shaping up to be a great new year in Gorzycki Student Media. Staffers for The Roar yearbook, Digit newspaper, Digit.Press online and Gnasher News broadcast are already coming up with lots of ideas for this year's products. Stay tuned!

Journalism Banquet 5/31 from 3:30-4:30

We'll be celebrating our awards and accomplishments from this year. We've given out most awards during class, so this is an informal time to mingle. Students can be picked up when they need to leave, preferably by the bus zone at the end of the 500 hall. Thanks for a great year!
