Good Afternoon Gorzycki Tigers
Here are your announcements for today:

Attention all students! Tiger Day 2020 is quickly approaching. PTA Socials is planning a fun afternoon for all students on Friday, March 13th. Come out and enjoy food, drinks, interactives and inflatables. Get your wristbands online now. More details can be found on the PTA website.

8th graders remember to turn in your Bowie choice sheets to your math teachers. The deadline is Friday, February 28th. If your choice sheet is not turned in by this deadline, you will have to deliver it to the Bowie High School counseling office yourself - Yikes!

GSA will be meeting this Wednesday in room 815 from 3:45-4:30. GSA is an inclusive club that brings together Gorzycki students to celebrate their diversity regardless of religion, sexuality, gender, grade level, or video game high scores. Hope to see you there!

The Girls Soccer B Team beat Paredes 11-0 on Saturday. Scoring for the Tigers was Parker L, Liz W, Finley S, Clare H, Brooke W, Linnea R, and Ava B. The Tigers held the Pumas scoreless with a stifling defense led by Cammy G, Audrey W, Addie R, JoAnna T, Sarah A, Sophie S, Riley P, Natalia P, Abigail D, Peyton S, and Sammy G! Congratulations to these ladies on an undefeated regular season! Don't forget to bring your jerseys to Torchy's Tacos after school for free queso! Go Tigers.

Really Tigers? Have you looked at the lost and found by the gym? If not, I’m not sure how you could miss it because it is overflowing with lost items! There are GMS agendas, water bottles, binders, jackets, and so much more (there are even lost shoes in the pile!). Please go take a look before you leave for the day, your lost item is probably there. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity in 2 wks.

Attention ALL 7th GRADE STUDENTS. If you are eligible and intend to apply for the 2020-2021 Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, be sure to JOIN the GOOGLE CLASSROOM to apply TODAY! The deadline for all applications is Thursday, March 5th at 4 PM ---- that’s only 10 days away!

Boys Track Tryouts will be Monday March 9th through Wednesday March 11th before school. March 12th will be a make-up day if necessary. Doors will open at 6:45. You must have a physical on file and you must sign up prior to the first day of tryouts in the coaches office. Please see coach Neary with any questions.

Tennis try-outs for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls will be Feb 26th and Feb 27th after school til 5:15. You must have a physical on file and bring your own racket. See coach Gaines if you have any questions.

Girls track tryouts will be held after school on March 9th, 10th, and 11th. We will end by 5:30 each day. You only need to attend the days for the specific events you want to try out for. Event information can be found on our website and in the girls locker room. Anyone interested in trying out must have a current physical. To sign up for tryouts, please see Coach Moreno if you're a 7th grader or Coach Kehoe if you're an 8th grader.

Here are your announcements for today:

Your final Random Acts of Kindness Week mission is to give your pet extra attention. Thanks for playing along! And keep spreading the kindness!
Boys Track Tryouts will be Monday March 9th through Wednesday March 11th before school. March 12th will be a make-up day if necessary. Doors will open at 6:45. You must have a physical on file and you must sign up prior to the first day of tryouts in the coaches office. Please see coach Neary with any questions.

The GMS Writing Club meets TODAY from 3:45-4:45PM in room 706. Come write, share, and mingle with other writers.

The 8th Grade B team defeated Bedichek last night 58-13. Calvin T. had the high score for Tigers with 12 points. Ben T. and Eli P. also played really well. The Tigers will take on Small next week in their last game of the season.

6th graders, if you enjoy spelling difficult words, WE NEED YOU on the UIL spelling team! Please talk to your ELA teacher if you're interested, or visit Mrs. Snyder in room 704. We practice every Thursday during Excel.

There will be no Magic: The Gathering club today. We will return March 6th and return to our Friday after school format then. Hope to see you all there!

The 8th Grade B team won their game against Paredes on Thursday night, beating the Pumas 41-14. Calvin T. and Eli P. were the lead scorers in the win with 8 points each. Henry J. and Drew W. also played great defense. The Tigers will take on Bedichek this week. Go Tigers!

Congratulations to the girls soccer A-team for their dominating performance last weekend. The girls defeated Bedichek by a final score of 13 to 0. Leading the way was Aisley B with 2 goals and Reese N, Ava J, Miya K, Brook C, Micah W, Marley C, Hailey H, Sam R, Sydney G, Finoa P, and Ava G each with 1 goal. The next match will be this Saturday vs Paredes

Congratulations to Harrison A, Izzy B, Collin J, and Daniel A! These seventh graders' poems were selected as winners in the AISD Vision & Voice Contest! Way to go, poets!

Attention 7th graders. The 2020-2021 National Junior Honor Society Eligibility List will be posted today, February 18th. You can find the list on GMSTigers.com, on the monitors in the commons area and on the posters located in the 700 and 500 hallways, commons, and cafeteria. If your name is on the list and you plan to apply, be sure to follow ALL of the directions. All questions can be directed to Mrs. Dammann in room 802.

The Girls Soccer B team continued their winning ways this past Saturday defeating the Bedichek Bobcats 10-0. Sammy G scored twice for the Tigers, as did Parker L and Joanna T. Abigail D, Bre L, and Clare H all scored as well. The Tigers finish their season this Saturday against Paredes here at home. Kick off is 10:30. Vamos Los Tigres!!

In celebration of National Random Acts of Kindness Week, we'll be encouraging you to spread kindness with a new kindness mission everyday. Today's mission, if you choose to accept it is to smile at someone you don't know.

Attention 6th and 7th graders -- are you interested in writing stories for the school newspaper? Filming segments for our television broadcast, Gnasher News? Creating a record of middle school memories for the yearbook? If so, fill out an application to join Media Production or Yearbook next year! In Media Production, you'll gain hands-on experience developing story ideas, interviewing students and staff, writing stories, producing videos, anchoring a newscast, and more! In Yearbook, you'll decide how to cover events around school, interview students, take photos, and decide what yearbook will look like, from colors to fonts to graphics and more! If you'd like more information, please see Ms. Sindt in room 508. Hope to see you in class next year!

If you signed up to be on the GMS Ready Writing Team, don't forget we are meeting today during Excel. Come to room 706 after the announcements.

The 8th Grade B team beat Bailey on Thursday night 45-21. Derek Y. and Zachary S. led the team in scoring while Connor H. and the rest of the Tigers played lights out defense once again. Great win guys. Let's go get Paredes.

The girl’s soccer A team won a hard fought game last weekend and defeated Ann Richards by a final score of 3 to 1. Leading the way was Maddie M with 2 goals and Valerie P with 1 goal. The next game will be this Saturday against Bedichek.

The Lady Tigers B Soccer Team defeated the Ann Richards Stars this weekend with a huge eleven to zero win! Parker L, Sophie S, Audrey W, and Ava L all scored two goals each with Brooke W, Emma P, and Finley S also all scoring one goal each. Elizabeth W dominated the offense with gorgeous corner kicks and crosses, and Riley P stepped up in goal when her team needed her. Our next game is this upcoming Saturday at 10:30 against the Bedichek Bobcats. Go Lady Tigers!!

Good Afternoon Gorzycki Tigers
Here are your announcements for today:

The 7th grade boys basketball b team had a great win over Bailey last night 63-14 to start off zone play. They were led on offense by Noah P with 15 points, Seth D with 14 points, and the outside shooting of Luke R with 10 points. All around great team defense held the Bears to just 2 points in the first quarter and 5 points at halftime. Come support your 7a and 7b Boys Basketball at home next Thursday as we take on the Paredes Pumas. Great Job Tigers!

The 7A Boys Basketball Team held on for a tough fought win against the 7A Bailey Bears last night. After the Tigers put up a big lead in the 3rd quarter where 9 of the 11 players on the team scored, the Bears fought back to make it a close game in the 4th and the Tigers eventually pulled away at the end to win by 10. Come support us next week at home when we take on the Paredes Pumas on Thursday. Great Job Tigers!

The 8th grade A basketball team beat the Bailey Bears last night by a score of 53-39. The Tigers used great team defense in the second half allowing only 11 points. Mason W led the way on offense scoring 19 points while Wonder and Danny G hit double figures with 10 apiece and Ian C chipped in with 8. The Tigers play at Paredes on Thursday.

Choir students who were selected for the Region Choir are reminded to report to the GMS bus loop at 7:15am tomorrow. They should wear their choir t-shirt, bring snacks & drinks, & bring their formal uniform for the concert later. The concert for guests & parents will be at 4:00pm tomorrow.

Today we wear red to raise awareness about heart disease. It's important to keep your heart healthy by being physically active, eating well, and managing your blood pressure and stress. Today we also celebrate the Cap10K! It's time to register and start training. If you'd like to join the Gorzycki Cap 10k team and compete against other AISD Middle Schools, see Mr. MacKenzie in room 714 for more details.

Students interested in being on the GMS UIL Ready Writing Team need to bring signed permission slips to Ms. Juettner in room 706 by this Friday, February 7th. If you have questions or need a permission slip, come see Ms. Juettner before Friday.

There is no Writing Club this week. The next Writing Club meeting will be Friday, February 21st.
