I have had the privilege to be a part of Gorzycki Middle School since it opened.  In these classes, students will have  the opportunity to learn a variety of important skills and be exposed to various career options.We do a number of "hands on" projects and activities that keep students engaged and challenged. I am looking forward to the year ahead!

4/8-4/12

Culinary: Students will get to continue to explore what is involved in entertaining guests for a meal as they plan a Brunch Menu. Students will also explore how to plan for meals for one, creating a menu for 3 days with "Home Alone Meals".
Food, Family and Finance: We will continue to work on our Pillow Projects. This  week, students will learn about Safety and Procedures for using our sewing machines.

4/1-4/5

Culinary: We will continue to practice our Culinary skills and learn important aspects for planning and hosting a meal, such as a Brunch for family or friends. We will make Pancake Cake in our 2 day lab this week. (Tuesday and Wednesday)
Food, Family and Finance: Students will be planning and sewing their pillow projects this week. It is important to follow directions and use time well in class each day!

3/25-3/29

Culinary: It's all about EGGS! We will be learning about eggs, nutrients and ways to prepare them.This week we will be making Mini-Quiche, in which students can add their own ingredients, such as ham and/or spinach, etc..
Food, Family and Finance: Students will continue to learn hand sewing stitches. This week, we will learn the Back Stitch, complete a sewing card and begin our Pillows.

3/11-3/15

Culinary: It's Pizza time in Culinary class! On Wednesday, students will get to create a yeast pizza crust. On Thursday, students will get pick healthy pizza toppings to bake their own personal pizza!
Food, Family and Finance: This week students will get to design the front of the pillow that they will be sewing by hand.  We will learn helpful sewing tools and introduce and practice the running and back stitch.

3/4-3/8

Culinary: We will be looking at the wide variety of Culinary tools and gadgets available for us to use in the kitchen. What does it mean to braise as opposed to broil? We will be learning about these and a number of other cooking methods this week.
Food, Family and Finance: We will continue to explore how to create nutritious meals. This week, we will have a pizza lab and vegetable lab.

2/25-3/1

Culinary: This week students will continue to "sharpen" their skills on using Knives safely. We will get hands on practice in our 2 Day roasted vegetable lab on Tuesday and Wednesday.
 
Food, Family and Finance: We are continuing our Food Unit. We are learning how to create healthy meals using the My Plate guidelines. As a special treat, students will get to make Sugar Cookies on Thursday!

2/4-2/2/8

Culinary: We are learning about the Fundamentals of Baking. This week students will get to make Biscuits in our 2 Day Lab on Wednesday and Thursday.
Food, Family and Finance: We will continue to discuss ways that we can strengthen our family relationships. We will explore the various age characteristics of children and how to care for them during the various stages of development. Students will get to care for the electronic babies this week!

1/28-2/1

Culinary: Students have been learning about Food and Kitchen safety. This week, students will get to participate in the first cooking lab as they create and bake the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies!  Yum!! This is a 2 Day lab (Wed. and Thurs.)
Food, Family and Finance: We are continuing to learn about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. This week, we will look at how these habits can make our family relationships stronger. We will learn helpful steps to resolving conflict in a way that makes you closer, and how to care for children of different ages.

1/22-1/25

Culinary: We will continue to learn about safety in the kitchen and hazards that we need to avoid. Students will get to learn the Do's and Don'ts/Expectations for our class Culinary labs and the various roles each person will get to do. We are covering the basics before we head to the kitchen for our first lab!
 
Food, Family and Finance: This week we will be learning about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and how we can implement them in our everyday lives! These are great habits to put into practice!

Culinary:As we begin the semester, we will take the first couple of weeks for getting to know our classmates, learning procedures/expectations and various team building activities. I am looking forward to the semester ahead!

12/10-12/20

Food, Family and Finance/Skills for Living: We will be wrapping up the semester with 2 more cooking labs. We will make personal pizzas on Wednesday and brownies on Friday. We will continue to explore how to create and eat healthy snacks and meals. It's been a wonderful semester with great students! I know we all look forward to our Winter break, but It will be sad to see our class time come to an end! 
Culinary: It's hard to believe our semester and Culinary class is almost over! I have enjoyed having wonderful students in class! We will be holding the Cupcake Challenge this week. We look forward to seeing all the presentations! 

12/3-12/7

Food, Family and Finance: This week students will be completing a Measuring Practice Lab (Making Trail Mix) and they will also get to make Stir and Drop Sugar Cookies! Yum!
 
Culinary: Students will get to explore nutrition and how to create healthy menus for friends and family who have special medical conditions and food allergies. We will also begin planning the Cupcake Challenge.

11/26-11/30

Food, Family and Finance: This week we will be learning about food safety, and how we can play it safe in the kitchen. Students will also get to learn about our Cooking Labs as we prepare to do our first lab next week!
 
Culinary: This week we are learning about working with meat. Students will get to make Hamburger Sliders in our one day lab on Wednesday!
