Mrs. Embree's 6th Grade ELA

Howdy Gorzycki Tigers! I'm thrilled to be teaching my favorite subjects- reading and writing. I've taught for over 20 years in many grade levels, but this is my first in 6th. I love it already! After graduating from Texas A&M, I began teaching in Austin. I have two teens, a husband, a dog, two cats, and two backyard chickens. Here's to a great 6th grade year!

Happy Holidays!

This semester has flown by! I've loved every minute of it. Thank you for raising awesome kids. Although we are all ready for a break, I will miss each of my students. Have a great winter break and a happy New Year! 2020 here we come!

YPU Consent Form, Gorzycki MS, Spring 2020, complete

I sent a red 1/2 sheet home with each student to give to you about this program. Your child's ELA class will have lessons on social and emotional learning through educators from the Phoenix House. Attached is information. If you would like to opt-out, complete the form (and email me just in case) and return it to me before January 13. Thanks!

Blogs due next week!

We have been reading and writing informational essays these past few weeks. Final submission criteria and instructions are on my BLEND page under the expository/informational text module. These grades will go on the 3rd 6-weeks.

Week of October 7-11

Four-day weeks can sometimes seem longer than five! We have the middle of the second 6-weeks coming up if you can believe it. Major grades are Summer Reading One-Pager project and Personal Narrative. This week, students will have homework, so make sure to look for it- they will be interviewing a parent. As always, I am doing my best to keep things up in BLEND. Still learning, but you should have seen me when I started! :)

This Week...

It seems like a lot is going on! Homecoming Week sure is fun for all. Personal Narratives are due by Friday. Students need to submit them in Blend, which you and they can access from the AISD Portal.
Thanks to Sam's mom, Jessica StLouis for laminating hundreds of our projects! You are awesome! We have a few more to complete if anyone wants to take the reigns.

Summer Novel One-pager Project

I am overwhelmed by the incredible projects! This was a tough one, and I can see that students worked on them for a long time. I enjoyed hearing them share their projects today. If you still need to turn yours in, do it as soon as possible. If any parent wants to volunteer to laminate, please contact me as soon as possible. I want to get these hung up! :)

Thank You!!

I am so appreciative of those who have bought supplies off of my Amazon Wish List. As the year progresses, I'm sure I'll find more to add. Thank you to all who took the time and money to purchase these items that directly impact your student. ALSO- thanks to those who bought Scholastic books through the flyers brought home. Because of your purchases, I was able to secure 10 books to add to our classroom library. Thank you to all of you for your support!

Today in EXCEL we watched a short video and then discussed the harmful effects of e-cigarettes, specifically JUUL. It was a good conversation and would be a great opportunity for you at home to openly communicate with your child about it. The link is below.
