What is Academic UIL?
UIL is an academic competition held each spring. Gorzycki will compete against other high-achieving schools from the area in writing, math, science, social studies, and many other events. It is a great way to focus on a subject area you love and compete for your school.
Who is involved in UIL Academics?
Students from all three grade levels, as well as their teacher coaches.
Are there any requirements to be in UIL Academics?
Any student is welcome to try out for an Academic UIL during EXCEL. Those teachers (Event Coaches) will develop competition skills and choose their teams from those students in Excel (as well as any student who shows interest). Tryouts will take place in December to start practices in January. If chosen to compete at the district meet, students must be passing all classes for the most recent UIL eligibility period.
When and where is the District Academic Meet?
All Academic events will occur this year on Saturday April 4th, 2020 at Murchison Middle School.
When will practices be?
UIL teams will meet twice weekly during Excel with their event coach.
How do I sign up?
Students sign up or meet with an event coach to tryout during December/January.
What if I want to sign up for more than one UIL event?
Start by signing up for the one you want most and talk to coaches of each event in which you’re interested. Depending on team numbers and conflicts, you may be able to participate in more than one event. Some coaches may keep a team member on reserve as an alternate.
