Academic Competitions

The following academic competitions are sponsored by various departments at GMS. For ease in locating more information about each competition, web sites and contact information is provided when available.
University Interscholastic League (UIL)

UIL is an academic competition held each spring. Gorzycki will compete against other high-achieving schools from the the Austin are in writing, math, science, social studies, and many other events. It is a great way to focus on a subject area you love and compete for your school!

National Geography Geography Bee

Every Fall/Winter, GMS students participate in the National Geographic Bee. Students have an opportunity to display their impressive knowledge of geography. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest, and increase awareness about geography around the world. For more information visit:

National History Bee

The National History Bee is a history competition for elementary and middle school students. Students are tested on a wide range of historical topics. Students who participate have the opportunity to progress from the school level to the regional level and finally the national championship. You can visit for more information on this exciting competition! Students can get more information and study resources from their Social Studies teacher.
