Data analysis Unit

In math class we are in the middle of our Data analysis unit.  Students will review and take an assessment the week of September 17th.

In this unit on data and statistics, students have been able to explore and interpret various displays of data.  Students began interpreting the data this past week, and will learn how to display data this week.   They will learn how to create box and whisker plots, histograms and review making stem and leaf plots.  Students have been working with mean, median, mode, range and interquartile range and using these statistical measures to describe data.

Both of the following essential questions have been driving the data analysis lessons:

Essential Questions:

  • Why is data collected and analyzed?
  • How can the center, shape, and spread of data be described?

Parent Questionnaire

Please take time to fill out the Parent Questionnaire
I would love to get to know your child better so that I am better able to teach them in class.
I look forward to meeting each one of you at Back to School NightTuesday, Sept. 4th from 5:30 -7pm at GMS.

Math Spiral!

Hi tiger families!  I'm getting excited to meet all of you and start off another awesome year.  This post is regarding our an important item students need for math class this year: a spiral notebook.  We use our math spirals every day and each 6th grader needs one for math class.

*** I believe those who purchased a pre-pack of school supplies were able to get a specific spiral for math included in the supplies.

Please get a spiral that is:
  • multi subject
  • includes folders
  • 9 in by 11 in is preferred
  • AS STURDY AS POSSIBLE
  • Bonus points if the spiral comes with flags to mark awesome math pages! :)
Here is an example of a great spiral:

Thanks everyone and see you soon!

Equations Quiz Part 2 Next Wednesday, 3-7

Hello all!  Tigers and Tiger families,
I gave everyone the heads up regarding our quiz next Wednesday, and I wanted to reinforce the message here.

We will continue to practice solving one step equations tomorrow.   We will spend Monday and Tuesday practicing these all of the skills from our unit and reviewing for the quiz.

Students are advised to begin their preparation for the quiz starting tomorrow!  They will have all of the tools they need to be ready.

Study early, and have a great weekend!
