The Scholastic Book Fair is being held at the GMS library November 5 - 10. NJHS has organized a book drive for the patients of Dell Children’s hospital. Please consider donating a NEW book purchased from the Book Fair. For each donation, the purchaser will be entered in a drawing to win a book fair poster!  Just tell the librarian that you want to donate a book. Every book counts!  Thank you!

First Six Weeks Done

Next week will conclude the first six weeks.  The students will take a six weeks test on Thursday, September 27.
A test review can be accessed on Google Classroom.  The students will complete the test review for a class grade.
Class time will be allocated on Tuesday and Wednesday and students may also choose to work on the review at home.

Message from our Principal regarding DOI days

Dear Parents and/or Guardians of the Bowie Vertical Team,

Please remember that Austin ISD has become a District of Innovation (DOI), a designation that allows schools to adjust their schedules and calendars to meet the needs of the school community.

The following changes were made for the Bowie Vertical Team.

All Bowie Vertical Team Elementary Schools (Baldwin, Baranoff, Clayton, Cowan, Kiker, and Mills) will begin at 7:40 a.m. each day. The warning bell will ring at 7:35 am and students will be counted tardy if not in classrooms by 7:40 a.m. Students will be released each day at 3:00 p.m.

· Bailey and Gorzycki start time and end time will remain the same.

· Bowie High School start time and end time will remain the same.

This slight adjustment in our start/end time will allow us to add four additional days of professional development for our staff, which will allow our teachers to collaborate on lessons, analyze data, and engage in professional learning to better serve our students. On these days, students will not attend school.

The professional development dates are:

· All Bowie Vertical Team Elementary Schools: September 24th, January 3rd and 4th, and February 15th.

· Bailey and Gorzycki Middle School: September 24th, January 3rd and 4th and February 15th. (NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS)
· Bowie High School: October 5th, January 3rd and 4th, and February 15th.

If you have concerns, comments or questions please let me know.

Two weeks in…

Can you believe that school has been back in session for two weeks already?  Crazy how time flies!

I am so excited to be back at Gorzycki for the 10th year, but even more excited to have “repeat” kiddos! The past two weeks have been so much fun reconnecting with my former 6th graders and meeting new students.

This year the students will be doing a lot of work on Google Classroom.  Each class period has their own page which can be accessed at anytime from anywhere. Assignments that are solely done at home will be input into the Edlio site (this one) to assist with reminders. Parents can access our classroom by using their child’s login and password (this is what I do as a parent to support my own child).

A few reminders as we head into the 3-day weekend:

Tuesday, September 4th is Back to School Night.  I look forward to seeing/meeting everyone!

Summer reading project is due Friday, September 7th.  Your child also has the option to take a quiz in lieu of completing a project.  All information for the project can be found on Google Classroom.

Public library card applications are due Tuesday, September 4th.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

library application

Our librarian is working with the Austin Public Library to get every student a “student” library card, which will give them access to both hard copy and e books. This card will never expire as long as your child is a student! Forms will be sent home tomorrow (Friday, August 31st).

These forms are due Tuesday, September 4th.

An electronic version of the form can be found on this site, but a hard copy needs to be submitted to me by Tuesday for processing.

Under CLASSES, click on English Grade 8.  Make sure to subscribe to that page as well.

All assignments can be found on each Google Classroom site.
